Flamborough-Glanbrook

This Hamilton-area riding will elect a new face on Sept. 20. Tory MP David Sweet resigned as chair of the House of Commons ethics committee after travelling to the U.S. over the holidays during the pandemic. He also said he wouldn’t seek re-election.

Population: 111,065 (Elections Canada)

Main challengers: Liberal candidate Vito Sgro, an accountant and longtime Liberal organizer who ran an anti-light-rail transit campaign in Hamilton’s previous mayoral race; NDP candidate Lorne Newick, a labour council leader; and Conservative candidate Dan Muys, a communications professional, who also opposes Hamilton’s light-rail project.
