Island Health steady in fight against COVID-19

NANAIMO — The number of new and recovered cases of COVID-19 within Island Health remain relatively unchanged.

Data from Island Health showed 27 new cases on Tuesday, April 27 with 263 active. The number of active cases dropped by two, while the number of new cases is in line with the three day average over the weekend.

Active cases within central Vancouver Island rose by three to 74.

The rolling three day average of COVID-19 cases within Island Health remained unchanged at 83.

The number of active cases has fallen sharply from the high of the third wave in early April.

Island Health has seen 4,544 COVID-19 cases in total.

Across B.C., 799 new cases were confirmed by the BC Centre for Disease Control.

The number of active cases sits at 8,089, down by 110 from Monday’s report. Of the active cases, 500 are currently hospitalized including 164 in critical care.

A total of 35,756 doses of COVID-19 were administered across B.C. in the last 24 hours, for a total of 1,671,128.

No additional fatalities linked to COVID-19 were confirmed.
