NANAIMO — The company which owns NanaimoNewsNOW and Island Radio in Nanaimo and Parksville is re-branding.

Effective May 1, the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group is changing its name to Pattison Media, signalling the first major rebrand for the broadcast company in over 20 years.

“This new corporate brand symbolizes our commitment to nimble navigate the new media and broadcasting landscape that we find ourselves in,” Rod Schween, Pattison Media president said in a release.

Schween said the new name and logo represents a new direction for the company with the COVID-19 pandemic showing the need to extend beyond the company’s network of radio and television stations.

Pattison Media operates 48 AM/FM radio stations, including 106.9 The Wolf, 102.3 The Wave, 88.5 The Beach and The Lounge 99.9 on the mid-Island.

Three television stations and 17 online news portals, including NanaimoNewsNOW round out the company’s media properties.

“Our vision has always been that we need to grow beyond existing audio and video delivery platforms,” Schween said. “The organization has and will continue to have a strong foundation in audio and video but ultimately we are a local content company.”

Included in the rebrand is a new $16 million campaign to support local business across the country.

Beginning on July 1, 2021, Pattison Media outlets, including in Nanaimo and Parksville, will highlight stories of local businesses, groups and people who have gone above and beyond to impact their community.

Community members will be entered to win weekly and monthly prizes, and could win a grand prize with an estimated $10,000 value to be awarded in June, 2022.
