NANAIMO — A sixth school in SD68 has made its way to Island Health’s COVID-19 exposure list.

School District 68 confirmed Ladysmith Secondary had a confirmed case linked to the school with a single exposure event on Feb. 5.

It’s the second exposure for Ladysmith Secondary in the pandemic. They were part of multiple exposures and clusters throughout the district in mid-November.

“Island Health is continuing contact tracing to identify any staff and students to self-isolate or self-monitor for symptoms,” a letter sent home to parents read.

Rock City, Bayview and Brechin elementary along with John Barsby and Nanaimo District secondary schools were all added in the first week of February after exposure events beginning in late January.

Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh in Snuneymuxw First Nation confirmed at least five cases through mobile testing.

Three schools, Rock City elementary, Bayview elementary and Qwam Qwum Stuwixwulh are listed as cluster sites indicating multiple cases and potential in-school transmission.

School District 68 have confirmed new exposure events nearly every day since Jan. 31.
