UPDATE: False alarm as COVID-19 case reported at Woodgrove Centre in error

UPDATE – The parent company of Woodgrove Centre has retracted their memo about a positive case of COVID-19 confirmed at the mall.

It was apparently sent out in error and there is not a confirmed case at the shopping centre.

NANAIMO — A person working at Woodgrove Centre has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a company memo addressed to the mall’s managers and owners.

The memo from B.C. regional manager of Ivanhoe Cambridge Charles Fleck on Tuesday, June 30 stated “this person is no longer in the shopping centre.”

It’s unclear when the Woodgrove Centre COVID-19 diagnosis was known.

Few other details were provided in the memo beyond stringent cleaning protocols previously in place.

No new COVID-19 cases in the Island Health region were announced in the province’s daily update on Tuesday, June 30, which showed one active remaining case on the south Island.

Most COVID-19 related data made public originates from the Ministry of Health.

NanaimoNewsNOW has reached out to both Island Health and Woodgrove Centre requesting additional information.
