Driver loses life in Hwy 19A crash in front of Country Club Centre

NANAIMO – A crash in front of Country Club Centre has claimed the life of a driver involved.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 14.

Nanaimo RCMP confirmed a 34-year-old female driver died in the accident in the northbound lane of Hwy. 19A in front of the mall after her vehicle swerved, hit the median and landed in oncoming traffic.

Injuries to the driver of an older model Hyundai and passenger were minor and treated both on scene and at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.

Witnesses to the crash who were dining at a neighbouring restaurant quickly responded with an off-duty nurse performing CPR until first responders arrived.

Northbound lanes and one southbound lane were closed for some time as the investigation continued.

The BC Coroners Service attended and along with officers from the Nanaimo RCMP are conducting an investigation into the incident
