NANAIMO — The Clippers have made a pair of moves as preparations officially began for the 2020/21 season on Monday.

June 1 is the first day teams can confirm and announce new trades, or the completion of future consideration deals from the year prior.

The Nanaimo Clippers announced a significant deal, sending Zack Dallazanna and Brandon Dent to Merritt in exchange for Tyler Schleppe.

Schleppe played last season in Coquitlam where he put up 13 goals and 19 assists in 56 games.

The 2001-born forward was also a part of the 2019 BCHL championship team in Prince George.

Clippers coach Darren Naylor said Schleppe will fill an important role on his new team.

“We picture him in our top six, right now in a top two centre role. That’s why we gave up such big pieces to get him.”

Leaving Nanaimo is Dallazanna who spent two seasons with the team and recorded nine points in 94 games. Meanwhile, Dent played half a season with the Clippers and earned five points in 21 games played.

In an earlier move, the Clippers also sent goaltender Zach Bennett to West Kelowna to complete a trade from earlier in the season.

Bennett posted a 6-8 record with a 2.49 goals against average in the 19-20 campaign.
