Clippers get second straight 6-3 win versus Bulldogs

NANAIMO – Josh Bourne had a five point outing in the Clippers 6-3 victory over Alberni Valley.

It was Nanaimo’s second second consecutive 6-3 win over the Bulldogs to take a 2-0 lead in their best of seven first round BCHL series.

Devon Mussio opened the scoring on a first period power play but the Bulldogs replied just eight seconds later when Olivier Fizet beat Jordan Naylor on a rebound..

A last minute goal by Ryan Doolin gave Alberni a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes.

Trevor LeDonne snapped a shot behind Jackson Glassford on a second period man advantage to put Nanaimo back on even terms.

The seesaw matchup continued with a puck that Matthew Grouchy slipped under Naylor to put Alberni Valley back on top 3-2.

Mussio got his second of the night and Josh Kagan notched a go ahead marker to give the Clippers a 4-3 edge heading into the final frame.

Kagan and Josh Bourne added third period tallies to ice the game for Nanaimo. Bourne had four assists to go along with his third period goal.

Nanaimo outshot Alberni Valley 44-33 and only gave up three shots in the third period. The Clippers were 2/4 on the power play and 2/2 killing penalties.

They haven’t given up a power play goal to this point in the series.

Games 3 and 4 are at Weyerhauser Arena on Mar. 3 and Mar. 5. In the regular season had a 2-1-0-1 record in Port Alberni.
