PORT ALBERNI – The Nanaimo Clippers are the regular season champions of the Island Division.

They won 6-1 in Alberni Valley to finish with a record of 37-17-2-2, one point ahead of second place Cowichan Valley.

Tim Washe’s power play deflection gave Nanaimo a 1-0 lead, and Travis Walton banged home a loose puck in the final minute of the first period to put the visitors in the drivers seat.

Ethan Scardina and Tyler Williams (on the power play) added second period markers before Jacob Bosse ended Jordan Naylor’s shutout bid just before the intermission break.

The Clippers kept it going in the third period with Scardina notching his second of the game and Kyler Kovich hitting the scoresheet as well.

Nanaimo wrapped up the head to head series with the Bulldogs with a 6-1-0-1 record and will face Alberni Valley in round one of the post season starting Feb. 28.

It will be the seventh all time meeting between the two rivals with the Clippers winning four of the previous six series.

Josh Bourne finished the season as the team’s points leader with 58 and Jordan Naylor had one of the best year ever for a Clipper goalie finishing with 30 wins and a team record six shutouts.
