Man accused of breaking into downtown Parksville businesses

PARKSVILLE — Oceanside RCMP arrested a man red-handed who’s accused of breaking into a pair of downtown Parksville businesses.

Mounties said a pair of commercial alarms went off on Morison Ave. and Harrison Ave. early on Jan. 31.

Police flooded the area and located David Francis Ovington, 44, who police said was arrested while carrying items believed to be stolen, including jewelry and a bottle of wine.

Ovington is charged with several property-related offences.

Court records show the Parksville man was released on bail with several conditions on later in the day.

His criminal record dates back to 1998.

Ovington has convictions all over the province, ranging from property crimes and driving offences to probation breaches.

His next court appearance is slated for Feb. 11.
