Nanaimo mom wins $500K after playing lottery for 1 1/2 weeks

NANAIMO — A local mother is the latest to win big on a lottery ticket purchased in Nanaimo.

Crystal Giesbrecht bought a lottery ticket with some friends when the Lotto Max jackpot was $70 million. She matched her Extra numbers in the Jan. 15 draw to win $500,000.

She’s the 14th person to win $500,000 or more on a ticket purchased in Nanaimo since 2012.

The lottery win is going towards a special vacation for her upcoming birthday.

“I’ve never been to Mexico before, so that should be a fun birthday,” she said in a release.
