NANAIMO — Two men considered prolific offenders were arrested after Nanaimo RCMP say a stolen truck rammed and destroyed a pair of undercover police cruisers, causing minor injuries to the officers behind the wheel.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said it was a “horrific” ordeal which played out Wednesday morning in the area of Yellow Point Rd. and Roberts Rd., south of Nanaimo.

O’Brien said police were tracking a stolen truck, which suddenly went over the hood of one of their cruisers. He said the truck didn’t stop there.

“The truck continued then drove directly into another unmarked car, up onto the hood and in through the windshield.”

O’Brien said the two men inside the truck took off and were quickly arrested with support from numerous officers on scene, including Emergency Response Team members.

He said one suspect was hospitalized due to a police dog bite.

O’Brien said there was room for the truck to move by on the side of the road.

“But for whatever reason chose to drive directly at the two police cars and in doing so endangered the lives of the officers and destroyed the two police vehicles.”

O’Brien said numerous charges are pending against two Nanaimo men, aged 32 and 47, considered prolific offenders all over Vancouver Island.
