Fire scorches Church workshop in Nanaimo

NANAIMO — A fire which sent thick billowing smoke high into the air above Nanaimo badly damaged a workshop belonging to a local church.

The blaze broke out in the shop beside World of Pentecost Church on Allsop Rd. just before 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

There were no injuries, according to Nanaimo Fire Rescue assistant chief Greg Norman, who spoke to NanaimoNewsNOW on scene.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue and East Wellington Volunteer Fire Department crews responded to the blaze.

Norman said it’s unclear what started the fire.

“They’re (firefighters) now doing some overhaul, they’re not doing interior because it’s been deemed to be unsafe,” Norman said.
