Toronto Wolfpack sign Tongan international rugby league star Fuifui Moimoi
TORONTO — The Toronto Wolfpack have made the biggest signing of their short history, landing former Tongan and New Zealand international Fuifui Moimoi.
The 37-year-old prop spent 11 seasons with the Parramatta Eels in Australia’s National Rugby League before moving to England to play for the Leigh Centurions under Paul Rowley, who is now coach of the fledgling Wolfpack.
“What he is is he’s a massive unit who moves mountains and takes an entire gang of guys to stop him,” Wolfpack CEO Eric Perez said Sunday from England. “He’s just one of those Pacific Island guys (with) big hair, big attitude and just big presence on the field.”
The Toronto team is set to open play in March in the Kingstone Press League 1, the third tier of English rugby league. The goal is to win promotion and ultimately make it to the elite Super League.
