Hugely prolific Parksville criminal facing over 20 new charges
PORT ALBERNI — A Parksville man with a long record of wreaking havoc around the mid-island is back behind bars, charged with more than 20 offences.
Craig Hannon, 23, was denied bail during a court appearance in Port Alberni on Friday, Oct. 26. He was originally facing 49 charges but it was cut down to 23 for alleged offences in Port Alberni between Aug. 12 and Sept. 2. The charges which stuck include multiple counts of theft of a motor vehicle, theft over $5,000 and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Court heard Hannon was arrested in Port Alberni last month despite a court order banning him from being within 30 kilometres of the city.
Hannon was sentenced to one-year in prison in April 2017 after he and an accomplice stole a truck in Errington and went on a crime spree spanning several mid-island communities. After committing crimes in Ladysmith, the pair led police on a high-speed chase on Hwy. 19 through Nanaimo, eventually ending when the stolen truck they were driving crashed into a ditch in Nanoose Bay.
