Democrat Deb Haaland won election Tuesday as governor of New Mexico, defeating Republican Greggory D. Hull. Haaland is a former U.S. interior secretary and member of Congress. A member of the Laguna Pueblo, she will be the first female Native American governor of any U.S. state. Hull is a former three-term mayor of one of New Mexico’s largest cities. Outgoing Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is term-limited. The Associated Press declared Haaland the winner at 10:40 p.m. EST.
