Alejandro Kirk drove in Toronto’s first run of the game in the third inning, helping the Blue Jays even the score 1-1 after George Lombard Jr. hit an RBI single in the second inning for the Yankees.

Spencer Miles (5-2) picked up the win in relief for the Blue Jays. Brent Headrick (6-2) took the loss.

Blue Jays closer Louis Varland earned his 27th save and struck out all three batters in the ninth inning.

Ricky Tiedemann made his Major League debut for the Blue Jays.

Once considered the club’s top pitching prospect, a series of injuries including Tommy John surgery derailed the left-hander’s development.

Tiedemann allowed two hits and one earned run, while striking out two batters in 1 and 2/3 innings pitched. The six-foot-four pitcher was selected in the third round of the 2021 MLB Draft.

Before the game, the Blue Jays placed all-star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr on the seven-day concussion injured list. He was injured in a collision with Lumbard at third base in the Jays’ 3-1 series-opening win on Friday.
