‘Cheer them on:’ Silly Boat Regatta hitting Nanaimo’s waters
NANAIMO — Boaters from across Vancouver Island are preparing to hit the waters in Nanaimo this weekend, doing so in the silliest way possible.
The 2026 Silly Boat Regatta is Sunday, July 19th, in the waters of Nanaimo’s Maffeo Sutton Park, with a full day of free events planned for boaters and spectators alike.
“Silly Boat is always on the third Sunday in July…and it’s all a fundraiser for the Nanaimo Child Development Center (NCDC),” said development coordinator Kimberlee Howland. “Build a boat out of recycled materials on site, and then race in the harbour about 100 meters out and back in different heats.”
