‘Expression and celebration:’ Nanaimo Pride parade & festival taking over downtown
NANAIMO — The Harbour City is set to be rainbow-clad this weekend.
Beginning around 11 a.m. in the Old City Quarter on Fitzwilliam St., and wrapping at Maffeo Sutton Park, the annual Nanaimo Pride Parade is set to take over the downtown on Sunday, June 14.
Nanaimo Pride Society’s Lauren Semple said the parade itself, with an expected 75 entries, snakes through the downtown, crossing the Bastion St. bridge before turning up Commercial St. and heading towards Maffeo Sutton Park.
“The best places for folks to watch the parade are going to be along Fitzwilliam St. hill, anywhere around the rainbow crosswalks and Bastion St., Commercial St. and Church St. just got a huge facelift last year, so there are really beautiful viewing options along there.”
