Driver pleads guilty to chaotic Gabriola Island impaired driving incident
NANAIMO — A highly intoxicated driver tried to re-start his flipped truck, then confronted emergency responders as they tried to help.
John Eric Turk, 55, pleaded guilty to impaired driving and was sentenced for his early morning conduct on Oct. 9, 2025, on Gabriola Island’s Spruce Ave.
An agreed statement of facts outlined by Crown Counsel’s Leanne Mascolo at Nanaimo Law Courts on Wednesday, April 22, heard Turk left a nearby pub then into a ditch shortly before 1 a.m.
Gabriola Island Volunteer Fire Department arrived first on scene where a responding firefighter was told by Turk he had been consuming alcohol.
