Commuter opposes Cathedral Grove cutting
Chris Alemany said he was shocked and saddened to see the number of old growth trees topped in Cathedral Grove last week, and turned into tall stumps.
“This is all part ecosystem so if we just go in there and top them all, then we’re just making a park for posts and I don’t think that was the purpose,” he said.
The Port Alberni man commutes through Cathedral Grove almost every day for the past 25 years, and questioned the argument that the trees posed a danger to visitors and motorists.
“Every tree in there is a danger tree if you really think about it,” he said. “If you’re going stand under the trees for an entire day, then you know a branch might fall on you. We deal with these dangers and we have to decide what’s what’s important here.”
