Rimmer leads Clippers in victory over Express

NANAIMO — The Clippers had one of their strongest performances of the season in an 8-3 victory over the Coquitlam Express.

Hayden Fechner set the tone 47 seconds into the contest with a goal and by the first intermission Nanaimo was up 4-1.

After Carson McGinley tied the game briefly at 1-1 on a man advantage, the Clippers got a power play goal of the their own from Charles Beland.

Will Subject on a penalty shot and Jack Rimmer with the game at four on four wrapped up the first period scoring.

Coquitlam’s Michael Munroe got the Express back into the game in the middle frame until Rimmer converted a three way passing play for his second goal of the night.

In the third period Tanner Bruender scored a power play marker and a wicked shot from Landon Pappas put the Clippers up 7-2.

The teams traded goals in the last two minutes on tallies by Coquitlam’s Nolan Flynn and Nanaimo’s Elliot Perreault.

The Clippers outshot the Express 45-23 while going 2/6 on the power play and 2/3 on the penalty kill.

Rimmer was named first star for the second game in a row and finished the weekend with four goals and an assist in two games.

Twelve different Clippers hit the scoresheet in the victory.

After the March 14 results around the BCHL Nanaimo held an eight point lead on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for second place in the Coastal West division and a ten point advantage on the fourth place Victoria Grizzlies.

The Clippers have five games remaining in the regular season and play next on March 20 against the Powell River Kings.
