‘Nothing could be saved:’ Rotary Bowl equipment shed destroyed

Feb 14, 2026 | 10:36 AM

NANAIMO — A suspicious fire flattened a Nanaimo Track and Field storage shed, with only the metal siding remaining.

Emergency crews were called to the Rotary Bowl on Third St. on Monday, Feb. 9 at around 4:30 a.m.

Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said the container shed was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters and police arrived.

“Nothing could be saved,” O’Brien said. “There was no secondary damage done, but the shed was destroyed, and in it was a lot of pole vaulting equipment that local athletes use.”

O’Brien said fire crews believe the fire was “probably burning for many hours” before they arrived, indicating it could have been set hours earlier, perhaps even late on Sunday evening.

The shed is at the northwest corner of the Rotary Bowl property, near Serauxmen Stadium.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP’s non-emergency line at 1-250-754-2345.
