Clippers Pappas and Davies paired together since day one

NANAIMO — Clippers blueliners Landon Pappas and Owen Davies have been a constant presence as partners this season, at a time when many things in junior hockey is in flux.

Player movement, coaches decisions, injuries and a host of other factors usually dictates players don’t get to play with the same people from game to game.

Davies said he’s in his final year of junior hockey and he’s never spent so much time playing with one partner.

“We trust each other and we know where we both are on the ice. It’s been nice being together for so long, really since training camp. We’ve been able to establish and build chemistry and we just do our best to support each other.”

Pappas believes their experience has made them a good fit and the two veterans don’t try to over-complicate things.

“Being D partners all year so far plays a big role. Both being 20 years old I would say we both focus on playing a simple and mature style of game which leads to success.”

Both players recognize how rare it is to get nearly 40 games of playing on the same pair.

“I don’t think I’ve part of a duo like this,” Davies said. It’s been cool to be a part of and hopefully we can keep it going. We’re definitely close and I think that shows on the ice.”

The two veterans play most of their five on fire shifts together and have help the Clippers into second place in the Coastal West division.

Pappas believes there’s still room to grow over the final two months of the season.

“I would say Davies and myself can only go up from here. Playing that mature and simple game helps in all situations on the ice. The more time we spend together on the ice only creates a better bond for us.”

Clippers highlights from games Jan. 30 against the Bulldogs and Jan. 31 versus Coquitlam.

The Clippers ended the month of January with a 5-1-1 record and will begin February with a home date against Prince George on Feb. 6 and a road battle in Powell River on Feb. 7

Of the Clippers final 18 games, 12 of those will be on home ice.
