$50,000 to replace

Penny Lane Bridge to close

Dec 5, 2025 | 9:56 AM

The Penny Lane Bridge will be closed due to deterioration.

The Pacific Rim School District inherited the bridge and walking trails at 10th and Roger from the city as part of the ADSS land swap.

The School District reached out to the city hoping to share in the bridge replacement project but the city refused.

SD70 Assistant Director of Operations Jeffrey Goode estimated the replacement cost to be more than $50,000.

“We have a large wooden bridge there,” he said. “It’s quite a costly and labour intensive job to replace these. It’s quite a large structure in quite a difficult area so we’d like to go ahead and temporarily close the bridge. This would be putting up some blocks and fencing and we already have some signage purchased and that would just be temporary until we decide if we’re going to dismantle it or if we come up with solutions for replacing it.”

While long-term options are being reviewed, signage and barriers will be installed at both approaches to restrict access, and the area will be closed.
