NANAIMO — The Nanaimo Clippers were supposed to play the Okotoks Oilers at the BCHL Showcase in Abbotsford on Thanksgiving Monday at 10 a.m. but instead they played the game in Coquitlam at 4 p.m.

A power outage in the Abbotsford area forced the postponement of several BCHL games to other locations around the lower mainland and Fraser Valley.

The Clippers waited over three hours in the hope the power would come back on but eventually the call had to be made to move the game.

The players made the 45 minute trek to Coquiltam Planet Ice and played to a crowd of around 30 people in a very tiny rink.

In the game Nanaimo got up 2-0 early on a power play goal by Patrick Fortune and the first BCHL marker for Indiana Grossbard.

Okotoks made it 2-1 on a Markus Jakobsen point shot before the end of the first period but Hayden Fechner notched his team leading sixth goal of the season to put Nanaimo in front 3-1 after the middle frame.

A Tanner Bruender deflection extended the lead to 4-1 before Brett Wilson scored the final goal of the afternoon for Oilers.

Dryden Riley had a 25 save performance in net for his first BCHL win and Samuel Boisvert had two assists in his his return to the Clippers from a stint in the QMJHL.

Okotoks outshot Nanaimo 27-25 while the Clippers went 1/5 on the man advantage and killed off all five power plays against.

Nanaimo improves to 5-2-1 and they will wrap up the BCHL Showcase with game in Abbotsford against the 6-1 Smoke Eaters at 10 a.m. on Oct. 14.
