UPDATE: Several Nanaimo-Vancouver BC Ferries trips cancelled amid mechanical difficulties

Sep 21, 2025 | 10:11 AM

NANAIMO — Sunday travel across a considerable section of the BC Ferries network is being further challenged, with complications expected into early next week.

The company has been forced to cancel a number of sailings between Horseshoe Bay in Vancouver and Departure Bay in Nanaimo, compounding multi-day challenges on its Langdale connection with the Lower Mainland.

Cancelled for Sunday, Sept. 21 were the 12:20 p.m., 5:20 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. sailings from Departure Bay in Nanaimo, along with 11:05 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. departures from Horseshoe Bay in Vancouver.

The company also cancelled a number of sailings for Monday, Sept. 22 including 2:45 p.m. and 10:40 p.m. sailings from Departure Bay and corresponding 6:15 a.m. and 7:25 p.m. crossings from Horseshoe Bay.

“Please check Current Conditions if you plan to travel with us today,” the company noted. “Alternate service is available via the Tsawwassen (Vancouver) – Departure Bay (Nanaimo) route.”

The company expects other sailings on the Nanaimo to Vancouver route to run as normal on Sunday, however heavy traffic volumes should be expected.

Sailings between Langdale and Horseshoe Bay have been interrupted or sailing at less-than-full capacity for several days as a result of vessel issues.

A water taxi was deployed Saturday afternoon to transport foot passengers with sailings between 4:45 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. ultimately cancelled, stranding thousands of travellers.
