Nanaimo property caretaker awaits sentencing for New Year’s Day shooting involving rubber bullets
NANAIMO — A local man is awaiting his sentence for shooting another man multiple times at a south-end disposal site.
Jeffrey Andrew Benvin, 49, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, Aug. 26, to charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm, in relation to an incident in the early morning hours on New Year’s Day 2024.
On Jan. 1, around 7 a.m., police attended the DBL Disposal Service facility on Tenth St., where they found a 43-year-old man suffering from serious injuries.
Following an investigation by the Nanaimo RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit, Benvin was arrested and charged in August.
