Parksville crash causes substantial power outage

PARKSVILLE — A motorist clipped the back of a truck and rolled over in a disruptive Saturday night crash in downtown Parksville.

It happened at about 10:20 p.m. in the area of Hwy. 19A and the Alberni Hwy., where Oceanside RCMP Cst. Tim Kenning said a trailing motorist rear ended the vehicle ahead while changing lanes.

No serious injuries were reported to those involved, Kenning noted.

“This incident speaks to being aware of your surroundings,” Kenning said. “Members on scene did check for impaired driving, but that wasn’t a factor.”

After hitting the back bumper of the leading truck, the driver of a white sedan spun out, hit a utility pole, flipped and landed on its side.

As a result, nearly 3,000 BC Hydro customers in the downtown and south Parksville areas were temporarily plunged into darkness Saturday night.

Localized traffic closures were in place while the scene was processed and cleared.
