NANAIMO — Game 4 of the Clippers playoff series with Cowichan Valley didn’t start well for the home team but it certainly finished strong.

The Capitals took a 2-0 first period lead on goals by James Russell and Camden Bajzer, but Nanaimo goalie Chazz Nixon was unbeatable after that.

Hudson Gill’s first career BCHL goal got Nanaimo going in the second period and a deflection by Luke Lavery sent the game tied 2-2 to the second intermission.

Mid way through the third period Makaio Van Tassel sniped a shot behind netminder Dylan Krick to give the Clippers their first lead of the night.

Empty netters by Carson Lesiuk and Patrick Fortune sealed the win.

Nanaimo inserted Nixon and captain Connor DeTurris into the line up to provide a spark in a must win game.

Nixon stopped 20 or 22 shots while DeTurris was an emotional leader on the bench, but never played a shift.

The Clippers finished with a 27-22 shot advantage while going 0/2 on the power play and killing off their only power play against.

Nanaimo has forced a Game 5 in the series on Apr. 11 in Duncan.

If necessary Game 6 would be at Frank Crane Arena on Apr. 12.
