RCMP seeking help after non-suspicious death of Nanaimo woman near Jack Point

Apr 2, 2025 | 10:55 AM

NANAIMO — Police are trying to trace the final steps of a woman found unresponsive near the Jack Point Trail earlier this week.

Mounties were called out to the Duke Point Hwy. around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, March 31 after the adult woman and Nanaimo resident was found a short distance from the shore.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue and paramedics from BC Emergency Health Services also attended, with RCMP staying for a considerable portion of the day. Efforts were made to resuscitate the woman, but paramedics pronounced her dead on scene.

“We’re trying to tighten the timeline to find out if anybody had any interaction or anybody saw her prior to her being found deceased on the beach,” Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW. “We’re asking if anybody spoke with her, saw her or has dash cam video.”

Foul play is not suspected.

Police say she was wearing a black puffy parka, black leggings and black boots at the time of her death.

Mounties are particularly focused on a 90 minute period before the woman’s discovery.

“We’re sure somebody may have seen her,” O’Brien added. “That area is frequented by a lot of walkers…people running, biking, whatnot and we would think somebody may have seen her during the timeline we’ve indicated.”

They’re hoping to speak with anyone in the area who may have seen her, or have dash cam footage in the Duke Point area between 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Nanaimo detachment at 250 754 2345.
