Port Alberni crime rate drops

Port Alberni’s crime rate went down last year.

Police received almost 11,000 calls for service in 2024, a decrease of 4% from the previous year, according to quarterly statistics received by 93.3 The PEAK through a freedom of information request.

Out of 12 criminal categories, only 3 areas of crime increased: assaults, robberies and thefts from vehicles – which went up a whopping 30%.

Mischiefs, which is the most common police complaint, was down 6% from 672 to 631 calls.

Thefts, which is another common complaint was down 21% from 310 to 243.
