SOUTH SURREY — For two periods Cole Lonsdale and his Clipper teammates couldn’t breakthrough the Surrey Eagles armour.

That all changed in a wild third period with Nanaimo erasing a 2-0 deficit and coming back to record a 4-3 overtime victory.

Lonsdale had a goal and an assist in the third period plus the overtime winner.

In his 100th career BCHL game Lonsdale was selected as the first star.

Makaio Van Tassel and Jack Rimmer had the other Clippers goals in the win.

Surrey had goals from Leo Esperjesi in the first period and Gavin Rocha on a power play in the middle frame to build up a lead.

After Nanaimo scored three unanswered goals in four minutes Jagjeevan Phangura tallied with under two minutes remaining in regulation time to force OT.

Lonsdale finished the game just 42 seconds into the extra session on a beautiful feed from Dylan Kinch.

Surrey outshot Nanaimo 33-31 with Vladimir Nikitin taking the victory in net to improve to 9-2.

Nanaimo went 0/4 on the man advantage and 1/2 killing penalties.

The Clippers have won five consecutive hockey games as they go into a matchup Mar. 22 in Coquitlam.

They trail the fifth place Express by one point in the Coastal Division standings.
