Mayor Minions to advocate for regional tourism funding
The Alberni Valley Tourist Information Centre could be open by summer if regional district directors vote to fund it.
City Council is refusing to pay the $90,000 annual cost as they look to trim the municipal budget.
But Mayor Sharie Minions hopes the ACRD will foot the bill since the tourist centre benefits the entire region.
“Myself and Councillor Haggard do intend to advocate at the regional district for ACRD funding and we of course as a city would be paying about 60% of that, so the expectation is that we will still contribute to the service but we will contribute through the regional district,” she said.
