Council candidates take questions

More than 50 people showed up to hear from a few of the candidates in the upcoming municipal byelection.

Debra Hamilton, Richard Huneault and Brennan Waters answered multiple questions submitted digitally, and talked about their lives and experiences in Port Alberni.

Sponsored by the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce, CEO Jolleen Dick said she liked what many of the candidates had to say.

“I was excited to hear about taking action on any commercial buildings that are not up to code or vacant in our main business areas,” she said. “I think that’s important to continue the growth that we’re seeing.”

Candidates Shinahkoh Couture and Tom Verbrugge said they were unable to attend the event.

The byelection is on Saturday December 14th at Echo Centre with an advance voting opportunity next Wednesday from 8am until 8 pm.
