NANAIMO — A strong fall storm moving into the region over the next day is already causing some issues for ferry travel.

BC Ferries have pre-emptively cancelled the 8:45 p.m. sailing from Nanaimo’s Departure Bay for Tuesday, Nov. 19, along with the corresponding 10:10 p.m. return trip from Horseshoe Bay.

The final scheduled sailing from Departure Bay on Tuesday will be the 5:55 p.m., according to the company.

Also off the schedule for Tuesday are the 8:45 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. sailings from Duke Point and Tsawwassen.

The last scheduled sailing will be the 5:45 p.m. sailings from each terminal.

Wind gusts are forecast to be upwards of 100 kilometres per hour in some coastal areas of Vancouver Island on Tuesday evening and into Wednesday, Nov. 20.

The so-called ‘bomb cyclone’ is moving across the region after brewing and strengthening in the Pacific Ocean over recent days.

You can follow BC Ferries on Twitter for more up-to-date information on all sailings and cancellations.
