Port Pub to be torn down

The Port Pub building is set to be demolished.

Once a famous Port Alberni beer parlour, the King Edward fell into disrepair after becoming no-barrier housing more than 20 years ago.

The City of Port Alberni has hired Warbrick Contracting to begin removing asbestos and other hazardous materials for the next six weeks before building demolition begins.

The building has been declared a nuisance property off-and-on since 2020, but in February this year the Fire Chief executed an evacuation order and the residents were forced out.

City Council passed a demolition order in June, and after the 30-day appeal period expired, work began on finding a contractor to do the work.

Former tenants who still have possessions inside the boarded-up building can apply to the city to have their belongings returned before the demolition begins.
