First place Chiefs defeat Clippers 6-1

NANAIMO — The Clippers scored the first goal but then gave up six straight to go down 6-1 in Chilliwack.

Carson Lesiuk had his first goal for Nanaimo seven minutes into the contest on a sharp angled shot from the left wing.

Newcomer James Lyver had his first assist with his new team on the play.

Chilliwack responded quickly with two goals from in close by Caleb Malhotra and Connor Dick to lead 2-1 after 20 minutes.

The Chiefs also outshot Nanaimo 14-3

Caleb Elfering tallied early in the middle frame however the Clippers held a shots on goal advantage of 12-7.

With under two minutes left in the second goalie Chazz Nixon took a stick in the face on a crease drive by the Chiefs Brady Milburn.

Nixon had to leave the game making way for the debut of recently acquired Finnish netminder Otto Nuto.

Both teams exchanged early third period chances with Nuto and the Chiefs Owen Bresson both making big saves.

Eventually Chilliwack broke through for three goals by Olivier Beaulieu, Tucker Shedd and Elfering again on a man advantage.

The Clippers were outshot 37-20 while going 0/2 on the power play and 7/8 killing penalties.

In the season series the Chiefs have won two of three matchups with another head to head game slated for Nov. 22.

Nanaimo’s next action is on Nov. 8 against Langley at Frank Crane Arena.
