NANAIMO — The Clippers used a good offensive second period and a rode a razor sharp Chazz Nison in a 4-1 win in Cowichan Valley.

After a scoreless first, defencemen Andrew Brown and Garin Ludwig vaulted the Clippers in front, and scoring sensation Alex Hebblethwaite added insurance to make the score 3-0 through 40 minutes.

Brown sniped a shot just inside the post on the glove side, Ludwig picked the top corner on the stick side of Alexei Noskov and Hebblethwaite overpowered the Cowichan goalie from the right wing.

Nixon was brilliant in the middle frame with several huge stops that included straddling the goal line and a falling glove save that stopped the Capitals short in the midst of a goal celebration.

The shots were 32-16 after the middle frame and Nanaimo was outshot 46-22 in the game but Nixon’s first star performance ensured a win.

Darius Bachler broke Nixon’s shutout late in regulation time before Brown’s second of the game capped off the scoring.

Nanaimo didn’t get a power play and finished two for two on the penalty kill.

The Clippers record is now 3-3-1 on the season with a high intensity week upcoming.

At the BCHL Showcase the Clippers play Cranbrook at 10 a.m on Oct. 15 in Abbotsford and then take on Salmon Arm in Chilliwack on Oct.16 at 1 p.m.

After that Nanaimo returns home for an Oct. 18 rematch versus Cowichan.
