Suspects sought after pair of boats stolen from Nanaimo’s waterfront

NANAIMO — Mounties in Nanaimo are looking to identify two suspicious people after two boats went missing during two separate heists on the same night.

Police say on Wednesday, July 10 around 1:30 a.m., two men unlawfully entered the dock at the Townsite Marina at 20 Townsite Rd.

Later in the day, a 45-foot sailboat, “Soggy Dollar”, was reported stolen after it was moored along H dock.

Investigators noticed the two men on surveillance footage climbing around the entrance gate were the sailboat was moored.

The “Soggy Dollar” was found the same day adrift in Departure Bay where a zodiac was seen leaving the area where the sailboat was located.

Both watercraft have been recovered and the owners have been notified, and remain under Nanaimo RCMP control.

The man on the left is described as Caucasian, between 35-40 years of age, medium height with a thin build, wearing a red Under Armour t-shirt and brown shorts while carrying a bike tire.

The second man is also Caucasian between 35-40 years of age with a medium height and build, wearing a black puffy jacket, blue shirt, jeans and black baseball cap.
