Miami Marlins draft former Nanaimo NightOwls catcher
NANAIMO — A huge senior year by a Duncan, B.C. product caught the attention of the Miami Marlins.
Connor Caskenette, a 22-year-old catcher, was snared in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Florida based National League club on Tuesday, July 16.
Caskenette exploded offensively this past season for the West Lafayette, Indiana based Perdue University Boilermakers of the NCAA, where he hit .309, while piling up 69 RBI’s in 55 games.
Thirteen of his 58 hits were home runs.
