‘Robo-washrooms’ coming from Calgary

Port Alberni is about to receive two robo-washrooms from the City of Calgary, thanks to City Councillor Deb Haggard.

Haggard was in Calgary this past weekend for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities meeting along with Mayor Minions and councillors Patola and Dame.

During a study tour about waterfront revitalization, the representative from the City of Calgary pointed out the facility and said it didn’t work during cold prairie winters and they were looking to give it away.

“Because of the automatic cleaning and the weather in Calgary, they found that the water would freeze so it just did not serve their purposes, so right away I put my hand up and I said we will take it, and they ended up not having one but two,” she said.

Haggard expects the city will have a public discussion on where the washrooms will ultimately go.

“Down by the waterfront walkway would be a good area for one of them because there’s no washroom in that area and the other would be good for a bit more of a public discussion about where in our community this will most benefit our citizens,” she said.

Port Alberni will have to pay to ship the $100,000 facilities from Alberta.
