Fishing Season begins!

It’s fishing season once again!
Sockeye are beginning to come in now with a few hundred already through the counters.
DFO is predicting an average to above-average year with 500,000 to 700,000 sockeye.
Anglers can catch 4 a day in tidal waters and Colby from Gone Fishin’ recommends the Nahmint area, trolling a pink or pink and black hootchie on a short 18-24 inch leader with a red flasher.
Paper Mill Dam is open for 2 fish per day and at Somass Park you can keep one.
A few chinook have come in from the surf line around Austin, Cree, and Cape Beale.
And this is the best time of year to haul in our delicious west coast spot prawns.
In the lakes, good sized trout are being caught on plugs and flatfish.
