Annual record show returns to Nanaimo in high demand

NANAIMO — Fans of classic vinyl are in for a treat.

The Nanaimo Record Show will be back at the Bowen Park Auditorium for it’s eighth year Sunday, April 21, running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Jack Tieleman, co-founder of the show, is excited to see what kind of items people will bring.

“It’s sort of like Christmas Day because you don’t know what’s in the package until you start looking through the show and people’s tables and we have new vendors this year so that means new things people haven’t seen previously.”

Vendors are coming from all over the Island, with some coming from Victoria, Ladysmith along with visitors from Powell River and the Lower Mainland making the trip over.

The event has continuously grown through the years, starting at the Royal Canadian legion Branch 10, before having to find a bigger venue because of the growth.

Tieleman said vendor tables sold out in record time this year, and will feature 43 eight-foot tables for vendors to display all kinds of music merchandise.

“You never know what’s going to walk in the door, there might be other types of collectables in the music range, but it is all record based for the most part.”

With record fairs and record stores popping up all over the place, Tieleman thinks it’s a wonderful time to start buying records.

The event is welcome to everyone, and admission is $2, with kids under the age of 12 getting in for free.

A food truck will also be on site serving record-lovers Caribbean cuisine.
