NANAIMO — It was triumphant return to a national television audience for a local singer.

Lauren Spencer-Smith returned to American Idol, not as a contestant, but as a guest performer during the Sunday, April 14 episode of the show’s 22nd season.

Spencer-Smith sang “Fingers Crossed”, a single she released in 2022 and previously reached number one on charts in Ireland and Norway.

“It’s so exciting, so many years ago when I was 16 being on this show and wanting to achieve so many things,” Spencer-Smith said to host Ryan Seacrest after her performance. “Being invited back here now…it’s so amazing.”

Despite appearing on the show before, it was Spencer-Smith’s first time on the American Idol stage.

Her run on the program was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning she was forced to compete from her family home along Sprout Lake.

The performance Sunday night is the latest accolade for Spencer-Smith, who was recently nominated for three Juno awards and also reportedly sold out her first tour as a headline act.

She’s due to perform in Europe beginning mid-June through mid-July.
