Port Alberni taxpayers will see their taxes increase by 9.29% this year, up from the 9.16% council thought they had gotten the budget down to.
The increase means an additional $215 a year to an average valued home assessed at $518,000.
Residential taxes represent 60% of the city’s tax income, while heavy industry is 19% and light industry is just 3%
Light industry taxes will be examined at a special meeting after Councillor Todd Patola raised concerns.
