NANAIMO — At least one person was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a multi-vehicle crash along the Nanaimo Parkway.

Emergency services were called to the Parkway intersection with Aulds Rd. at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8 after two northbound vehicles, a sedan and SUV, collided with a northbound semi as they proceeded through the lights.

Damage was sustained mainly to the two smaller vehicles, however the semi trailer’s front bumper was torn off in the incident.

Northbound traffic was completely closed off with vehicles being detoured over to the Old Island Hwy. or through Lantzville, while southbound traffic was slowed with the incident blocking vehicles turning left onto Aulds Rd.

Vehicles already on Aulds Rd. heading towards the highway were turned around at the intersection.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue (NFR) confirmed the semi trailer will be on scene “for a while”.

No word on the cause of the incident or the specific nature of the injuries.

NFR declared the scene was cleared at 12:50 p.m.
