COQUITLAM — Emmett McHardy had a huge night against his former team in a Clippers 5-2 win in Coquitlam.

The Nanaimo veteran scored two goals and was named the game’s first star.

After a scoreless first period Express captain Michael Rubin opened the scoring one minute into the middle frame.

McHardy equalized a couple of minutes later on a deflection.

Just one minute later Drew Garzone snapped a shot by Nanaimo starter Chazz Nixon to put Coquitlam up 2-1.

From there the Clippers scored the final four goals of the night.

Luke Buss equalized half way through the period and Chase Hull notched the eventual game winner three minutes before the intermission break.

Late third period empty netters by McHardy and Mike Murtagh sealed the game for Nanaimo.

The Clippers outshot Coquitlam 34-28 with both teams going 0/2 on the man advantage.

Nanaimo finished with three wins in the four head to head games in the season series.

Now the Clippers will turn their attention to the Coastal Division leading Surrey Eagles.

Nanaimo is in Surrey March 2 and they face the Eagles at home March 8 and 10.

The Clippers also have a road game in Victoria March 9.
