Clippers offence shut down in 3-0 loss to Chiefs

NANAIMO — The Clippers couldn’t get any traction in a 3-0 loss in Chilliwack.

Nanaimo was playing without leading scorer Michael Murtagh, who was serving a one game suspension, and the hole it left in the offence was undeniable in a Wednesday, Feb. 28 matchup at Chilliwack Coliseum.

Chilliwack outshot Nanaimo 38 to 18 with the Clippers getting seven shots in each of the first two periods and just four in the final frame.

The Chiefs scored once in each period and Savin Virk was in on every play finishing with two goals and an assist for the hosts.

Nathan Morin had the other tally late in the contest.

Vladimir Nikitin took the win while Chazz Nixon suffered just his third regulation loss of the season for the Clippers.

Nanaimo ended up going 0/5 on the power play and 3/4 killing penalties.

Dylan Kinch and Willyam Gendron faced their old teams for the first time since being traded for each other in late January.

Gendron got the upper hand with an assist on the Chiefs first goal.

Chilliwack has now taken the first two games in the season series with another two head to head battles remaining in March.

Nanaimo continues their mainland road trip when they visit Coquitlam on March 1 and Surrey on March 2.
