Clippers double Capitals 4-2 despite giving up 47 shots

NANAIMO — The Clippers had outstanding performances from a trio of players in a 4-2 win over Cowichan Valley.

Goalie Chazz Nixon stopped 45 of 47 shots and was named the first star in the victory.

Nanaimo managed 30 shots on the Capitals Aiden Fischer and got a pair of goals each from Cole Lonsdale and Luke Buss.

Lonsdale also added an assist.

Nixon was the story of the first period with the Clippers outshot 17-5.

Nanaimo held an 18-7 shots on goal advantage in the middle frame and jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

Then the teams traded goals in the third period with Luke Lavery, and then Buss and Myles Gauld on power plays rounding out the scoring.

After going four games without a power play goal Nanaimo went 2/2 on the man advantage with Buss getting both markers.

The Clippers win moved them within one point of third place Alberni Valley and three points clear of the fifth place Victoria Grizzlies in the Coastal Division standings.

Nanaimo takes a 5-1 season series record into another home game against the Capitals on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
